At Allowah we are committed to family-centred care, and as part of the commitment we employ a Family Worker.

Our Family Worker gives ongoing informal emotional support to parents, siblings and other family members. She can provide counselling for parents struggling to cope or whose relationships are under strain and can make referrals to an independent or specialist counsellor outside of Allowah when needed.

It can be hard when caring for a child with complex needs to find all the information and support that is needed for day-to-day life. Our Family Worker helps families find services that are available, puts them in touch with providers, and talks with government departments and other organisations to help families access the resources and treatment they need.

Our Family Worker also provides trauma and grief counselling and crisis intervention. She supports families when they are faced with bad news, difficult decisions or at the end of their child’s life.

Our Family Worker also runs groups and information sessions for families or recommends groups at other services.
