The Role of Speech Pathologists

  • Assessment, diagnosis and management of swallowing issues - physiological, behavioural and developmental.
  • To provide support and recommendations regarding communication, oral care and social skills.
  • To always work with community or hospital based therapists to maintain the consistencies or interventions in all environments.
  • To maintain close relationships with Speech Pathology departments in large hospitals. (The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children's Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, St George Hospital, The Spastic Centre and DADHC)
  • Support access to community home based services or referrals to appropriate clinics.
  • To support to school staff, pre-schools and parents.
