So what does a Social Worker do anyway...

Social work at Allowah includes lots of different roles;

Liaising with external providers: Talking with government departments and other organisations to help families get the resources and treatment they need.

Psychosocial support: Giving ongoing informal emotional support to parents and siblings and to anyone attached to families who just need a listening ear.

Counselling: for parents struggling to cope or whose relationships are under strain. Referring to an independent or specialist counsellor outside of Allowah when needed

Information and Referral: Informing families of services that are available and putting them in touch.

Psychosocial Family Assessment and Intervention: Assessing the emotional and relationship needs of children and families and figuring out how to help solve 'stuck' problems 

Psychosocial Education: Advising and training families in how to be emotionally healthy have strong relationships 

Trauma and Grief Counselling and Crisis Intervention: Supporting families when they are faced with bad news, terrible decisions or at the end of their child's life.

Critical Incident Debriefing and Workplace Counselling: Supporting staff in stressful work place situations and during serious incidents.

Child Protection Advice: Advising about keeping children and families safe and emotionally healthy.

Support and Information Groups: Running groups and information sessions for parents and siblings or recommending groups at other services.
