This month, we were thrilled to receive a delightful batch of cosy quilts from the Crafty Friends group at Maclean Presbyterian Church, organised by the talented Claudette. These beautifully crafted blankets have brought joy and warmth to our children during these chilly mornings, embodying the true essence of real love in action.
These quilts have not only provided warmth but also have an undisputable impact on the atmosphere at Allowah – there’s something very homely about handmade blankets. The Crafty Friends group, is a ministry of Maclean Presbyterian Church, regularly meeting together at the church which is over 600km from Allowah! In their letter they said, “The ladies here love what we do [making quilts and other crafts] and we all look forward to our meetings every month.” For this little group, their members enjoy the opportunity for social interaction with other Christians, as well as the knowledge that their crafts will be helping others.
Their thoughtful donation is a testament to their commitment to supporting those in need and brightening the lives of all of us here at Allowah.
More recently, we were blessed with another wonderful donation, this time of colourful quilts from the amazing Sydney-based Stitching Hearts Quilters. Each quilt is a masterpiece, thoughtfully crafted with love and care. With even more wonderful designs to enjoy, we’ve already seen kids engaging with pictures and patterns on the quilts. Stitching Hearts, which was formed in 2005, has been dedicated to sewing quilts for individuals in the community who need a little extra comfort. We’re thankful to have their support in this way and look forward to seeing their wonderful pieces enjoyed over the course of these colder months.
Over the years, Allowah has been fortunate to receive many amazing handmade goods from our supporters, including blankets, beanies, and soaps. When these items aren’t suitable for use at Allowah, it’s been great to be able to use them to raise funds towards our work with the kids.
These items are always a hit at our supporter events and visits. We currently offer a variety of organic soaps, knitted and crocheted blankets, and other goods for purchase, with proceeds supporting the essential work of Allowah.
If you’re interested in purchasing any of these items, keep an eye out to join us at one of the events that Allowah hosts or attends. Or if you have an event coming up where you think a little stall for Allowah would be a hit, please contact Elissa at supportus@allowah.org.au or on 0491 157 546. Your support makes a significant difference in the lives of the children and young people at Allowah, and we are deeply grateful for your continued generosity and kindness.
Thank you for your patience as we update our website to reflect Allowah’s next chapter and the changes announced in June this year. If you have any questions, please contact our CEO Elizabeth McClean at emmclean@pcnsw.org.au.
