Allowah

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and works to prevent disease and disability through physical means. At Allowah, our Physiotherapists are an important part of our Allied Health team.

While our Physiotherapist is not the primary therapists for children who are admitted to Allowah, they works with the child’s community therapist to provide continuity of care. Children need to continue to be involved with their physiotherapist in the community, such as therapists from CP Alliance, Northcott or a private physio. We will always ask for parental permission before speaking with a child’s community and specialist clinic therapists to ensure that the program at Allowah matches closely the child’s home experience.

Our Physiotherapist is involved in many aspects of the care of children at Allowah, such as making sure the child’s therapy program is integrated into their daily care routine and advising staff on lifting and handling children.

Our skilled Physiotherapist provides expert support with:

      • Early Intervention – gross motor development

      • Prescription of walking aids and standing frames

      • Body garment recommendation

      • Bike riding training and recommendation

      • Manual handling education and training

      • Serial casting (to help foot positioning),

      • Prescription and recommendation of AFOs and other foot splints

      • And more!
