My child is being transferred to the NDIS on 1 July and I’m not sure what’s happening!

If your child is currently accessing accommodation and community high supports from the NSW Government and is in the areas that are part of the July 2016 NDIS roll out, they will enter the Scheme first – between July and September 2016.

You should have received a letter this week setting out the process, which we understand will be as follows:

Step 1: Because your child already receives support through the NSW Government, their details have been sent to the National Disability Insurance Agency direct. This means you don’t have to contact the NDIS to get access to the Scheme – you’ll get it automatically.

Step 2: An NDIS representative will get in touch, by either phone or letter, to confirm your details have been received by the NDIA. Nothing about your child’s supports will change during this time.

Step 3: An NDIS representative will get in touch and ask you to take part in a readiness session. This session is to help you understand how the NIDS works and how the transfer will take place.

Step 4: This is the really important one – and you need to be ready before it happens! An NDIS representative will contact you and set up a meeting to talk about your first plan. They will spend time talking about your child’s goals and the supports they currently receive. They will then develop your child’s first plan. Once you have signed off on it, this is what will be submitted for approval.
